The CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services prepares individuals for roles in delivering and managing person-centered services in community settings. The CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services reflects the role of community services workers involved in the delivery, management, and coordination of person-centered services to individuals, groups, and communities. It consists of 20 units, including 12 core units and 8 elective units. Core units cover essential areas such as assessing co-existing needs, developing and implementing service programs, responding to crisis situations, facilitating case management, analyzing sociological factors, recognizing and responding to domestic and family violence, working with diverse people, promoting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety, managing legal and ethical compliance, facilitating workplace debriefing and support processes, reflecting on and improving professional practice, and maintaining work health and safety. Elective units allow students to tailor their studies to their specific interests and career goals, with options including researching and applying evidence to practice, managing personal health and well-being, applying specialist interpersonal and counseling skills, managing and promoting diversity, leading the work team, developing and maintaining networks and collaborative partnerships, managing meetings, and developing and using emotional intelligence.


Assessment:

Assessments may include practical demonstrations, role plays, written reports, group projects, presentations, and written questionnaires. Students are expected to demonstrate their competence in the knowledge and skills covered in each unit.


Careers:

Graduates of the CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services may pursue careers as community care managers, coordinators of volunteer work, team leaders, family services coordinators, support facilitators in community services, community service workers, community development workers, program coordinators, and youth support workers. The qualification may also lead to further education in the CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management or higher education qualifications in community services management.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age or older at course commencement.
  • Students must have completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent or have completed AQF Certificate IV or relevant qualification.
  • An overall valid academic IELTS score of at least 5.5 or equivalent unless exempted (please refer to the DOHA website for Acceptable English Evidence and Exemptions); or an English proficiency of intermediate level or above from an approved ELICOS provider; or have completed at least an Australian Certificate IV qualification within the last 2 years; or have successfully passed Western Sydney College’s English Placement Test.
  • For Packaged courses, student must (successfully) complete the lower qualification to progress to the higher qualification.
  • International Students must meet the Student Visa (SC500) requirements.
  • Admission criteria for this program also includes the student’s agreement and ability to undertake the following:
  • Attend and participate in scheduled training and assessment.
  • Have physical and sensory abilities to participate in workplace tasks and expectations and handle industry standard equipment.
  • Comply with the RTO code of conduct requirements, directions on work, and health and safety matters.
