Degree Overview:
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Petroleum) with major is developed and taught by industry-trained academics through the Australian School of Petroleum and Energy Resources. This is Australia and Southeast Asia's academic center for petroleum research and education, and the only school of its kind in Australia.
Objectives:
- Learn about petroleum engineering, petroleum geoscience and the oil industry
- Take courses in business and project management
- Develop technical knowledge and network with potential employers
- Undertake interactive projects and field trips
- Complete an eight-week practical experience.
Outline:
- Year 1: Introduction to Engineering, Programming (Matlab and Excel), Mathematics IA, Mathematics IB, Introduction to Subsurface Geoscience & GeoEnergy, Introduction to Petroleum Engineering.
- Year 2: Systems Engineering and Industry Practice, Differential Equations for Engineers II, Statistics & Numerical Methods II, Formation Evaluation, Petrophysics & Rock Properties, Drilling Engineering.
- Year 3: Production Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, Integrated Field Development and Economics Project, Decision Making and Risk Analysis, Unconventional Resources and Recovery.
- Year 4: Honours Engineering Research Project - Part A, Honours Engineering Research Project - Part B, Data analytics in the oil and gas industry, Carbon Capture & Storage in Geological Formations.
