Program Content and Structure:

The Business Administration MBA program with a Marketing Emphasis requires a minimum of 30 credit hours, depending on the student's previous background. Coursework must be completed within a maximum six-year period. At least 2/3 of coursework must be taken while enrolled as an MBA candidate at UMSL.


Required Foundation Courses:

  • INFSYS 5800Management Information Systems (3 credit hours)
  • MGMT 5600Managing and Leading in Organizations (3 credit hours)
  • MKTG 5700Integrated Marketing Strategies (3 credit hours)
  • SCMA 5310Supply Chain Strategies (3 credit hours)

Strategic Management Requirement (3 credit hours):

Students must choose one of the following courses:

  • BUS AD 6990Strategy Formulation And Implementation (3 credit hours)
  • INTL BUS 5289International Business Strategies (3 credit hours)
  • MGMT 4614Entrepreneurship/Small Business Management (3 credit hours)

Emphasis Area Requirements (9 credit hours):

Students can choose to specialize in Marketing by completing:

  • MKTG 5701 (3 credit hours)
  • Six additional hours of Marketing electives beyond MKTG 5700 (MKTG 5700 does not count toward the emphasis in Marketing)

Electives (9 credit hours):

Students with an emphasis area must choose 9 credit hours of elective courses from within the College of Business Administration. Students without an emphasis area have the flexibility to select electives from a wider range of graduate courses.

Assurance of Learning:

All MBA students are required to participate in the BUS AD 6991 Graduate Business Assessment Testing class during their last semester. This learning assessment course is not for credit.
