This Athletic Coaching minor explores the psychological, physiological, and scientific principles underlying physical education and sport. Students gain practical experience through an internship and prepare for careers in youth sports, including coaching, teaching, fitness leadership, personal training, and sports management.

- HLTH PE 3275Psychological Aspects of Physical Education: (3 credit hours) Explores the psychological principles and theories that underlie physical education and sport. Topics include motivation, learning, personality, social development, and the role of physical activity in mental health.
- HLTH PE 3280 Human Anatomy and Physiology: (4 credit hours) Provides a comprehensive overview of the structure and function of the human body. Topics include the skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems.
- HLTH PE 3285 Safety and Emergency Care for Health and Physical Education: (3 credit hours) Prepares students to prevent, recognize, and respond to injuries and emergencies that may occur in health and physical education settings. Topics include first aid, CPR, AED use, and injury prevention strategies.
- PHY ED 3283 Kinesiology: (3 credit hours) Studies the scientific principles of human movement. Topics include biomechanics, motor control, and the application of kinesiological principles to physical activity and sport.
- PHY ED 3287 Seminar in Exercise Science: (3 credit hours) Examines current research and trends in exercise science. Topics may include nutrition, fitness assessment, exercise prescription, and the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases.
- HLTH PE 3284 Physiology of Human Exercise: (3 credit hours) Investigates the physiological adaptations to exercise and sport. Topics include the cardiovascular, respiratory, muscular, and endocrine systems, as well as the effects of exercise on body composition and metabolism.
- EDUC 4989 Internship I: (3 credit hours) Provides students with practical experience in a school or community setting. Students will work with a mentor to develop and implement lesson plans, assess student learning, and manage classroom behavior.
