The Carpentry – Building Construction Technician program provides foundational skills for employment in the construction industry. Graduates gain expertise in energy-efficient and environmentally responsible residential building construction, including Net Ready and Net Zero designs. The program emphasizes the use of up-to-date materials and technologies to promote low-carbon footprint construction. Graduates are prepared for careers as assistant lead carpenters, exterior finishers, finishing carpenters, framing carpenters, and roofers.

This Carpentry – Building Construction Technician program is a Ministry-approved program designed to provide foundational skills for individuals seeking employment in the evolving building construction industry. Graduates will possess a comprehensive understanding of the Ontario Building Code (latest edition), energy-efficient practices, sustainable building techniques, and environmentally responsible construction methods. The program emphasizes the use of up-to-date materials and technologies to promote low-carbon footprint construction, including Net Ready and Net Zero designs. Students will gain expertise in the construction of energy-efficient and environmentally responsible residential buildings, and develop proficiency in a wide range of carpentry tasks. Additionally, they will acquire the skills necessary to upgrade existing buildings. The program curriculum covers fundamental carpentry skills, including the design and construction of footings and foundations, the layout and framing of floors, walls, and roof systems, and the completion of interior and exterior finishes. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a framing project and work in a brand new construction laboratory equipped with the latest building materials and technology. Note that extra certifications may be completed outside of regular class time, including evenings and weekends.
