Required Courses:
- 6 credits in first-year English
- 9 credits in Science, including:
- 3 credits in Mathematics, Computing Science, or Statistics
- 3 credits in a laboratory science
- 36 credits of Arts courses, including:
- 6 credits in Social Sciences
- 6 credits in Humanities (including Creative and Performing Arts) other than English
- 6 credits in Social Science or Humanities (including some Creative and Performing Arts) other than English
- 18 additional credits in Arts courses
- 9 credits in Arts, Science, or other areas
Program Notes:
- Courses are defined by the subject for which they are granted transfer credit at Simon Fraser University (SFU), the University of British Columbia (UBC), the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), or the University of Victoria (UVic).
- Arts courses are defined as any course in a subject area for which there is a Baccalaureate of Arts degree at SFU, UBC, UNBC, or UVic.
- Science courses are defined as any course in a subject area for which there is a Baccalaureate of Science degree or Baccalaureate of Applied Science degree at SFU, UBC, UNBC, or UVic.
- Courses in an "other" area are defined as any course in a subject area for which there is a Baccalaureate degree other than in Arts, Science, or Applied Science at SFU, UBC, UNBC, or UVic.
- First-year courses are defined as courses that have assigned or unassigned transfer credit at the 100-level at SFU, UBC, UNBC, or UVic.
- Second-year courses are defined as courses that have assigned or unassigned transfer credit at the 200-level or higher level at SFU, UBC, UNBC, or UVic.
- A laboratory science is one in which a substantial component of student instruction involves the study of natural phenomena, either in the laboratory or in the field. Each institution granting the Associate Degree will determine which of its courses satisfy this requirement.
Assessment:
- An average overall grade of "C" (cumulative GPA of 2.0 or its equivalent) calculated on all courses counting towards the associate degree must be achieved.
- No course may be used to meet more than one of the requirements.
Teaching:
- Instructors at CapU provide guidance, advice, and mentorship throughout the coursework in the associate of arts program.
