Program Overview
The Animation Fundamentals Citation introduces students to traditional and computer animation techniques through hands-on exercises. Students learn animation principles, design basics, drawing for animation, and digital animation using industry-standard software. Graduates are prepared for careers in various animation-related fields, including 2D and 3D animation, character design, and illustration.

The Animation Fundamentals Citation introduces students to the process of creating traditional and computer animation. In the program, you'll learn and practice animation techniques through hands-on exercises. You'll also gain new skills in drawing for animation, design, animation principles and digital animation.
First Term
ANIM 010 Animation Principles and Timing (2.00 credits)
This course introduces the 12 principles of Animation and their application to character animation. Students will learn and practice 2D traditional animation techniques, including exposure sheets and rough animation.
ANIM 020 Design Basics for Animation (2.00 credits)
This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of design for animation, with a focus on character and location design. Students will learn and practice basic design principles, such as shape, color, and composition, and apply them to the creation of original characters and locations.
ANIM 030 Drawing for Animation (2.00 credits)
This course introduces the fundamentals of drawing for animation, with a focus on life drawing and gesture drawing. Students will learn and practice basic drawing techniques, such as line, shape, and form, and apply them to the creation of original drawings of the human figure and other subjects.
ANIM 040 Digital Animation and Design (1.50 credits)
This course introduces the fundamentals of digital animation and design, with a focus on using industry-standard software. Students will learn and practice basic digital animation techniques, such as keyframing, tweening, and lip-syncing, and apply them to the creation of original digital animations.
Teaching:
The Animation Fundamentals Citation is taught by experienced animators who are also faculty members in the CapU School of Animation & Visual Effects. The program is delivered in a hands-on, practical environment, with students working on a variety of projects throughout the term. Students will receive individualized feedback from their instructors, and will have the opportunity to showcase their work in a final portfolio presentation.

- Storyboard artist Many graduates of the program go on to pursue further education in animation, such as the 2D Animation & Visual Development Diploma or 3D Animation for Film and Games Diploma at CapU.
