Program Overview


This English Language Program offers four levels of academic English instruction, from intermediate to advanced. Students who complete Level III with a B or higher earn an English Language Certificate. Level IV includes bridge courses to prepare students for college-level coursework. The program is designed for students who need to improve their English language skills for academic purposes.

  • ELP 50 – Intermediate Academic Reading/Writing/Grammar
  • ELP 55 – Intermediate Academic Listening and Speaking

Level II

  • ELP 60 – High Intermediate Academic Reading/Writing/Grammar
  • ELP 65 – High Intermediate Academic Listening and Speaking

Level III

  • ELP 70 – Advanced Academic Reading/Writing/Grammar
  • ELP 75 – Advanced Academic Listening and Speaking

Level IV

  • ELP 98 – Academic Skills for College Preparation (3 credits, 90 hours)
  • ELP 95 – Interactive Communication for College Prep (3 credits, 60 hours)

Certificate:

  • Students who complete both ELP 70 and ELP 75 with a minimum grade of B will receive an English Language Certificate.

ELP Bridging Courses:

  • ELP 98 is an intensive college preparation bridge course.
  • Students in ELP 98 can take other academic courses at the same time. Students who arrive at the College of the Rockies with an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with a band of 5.5 in Reading and Writing must take ELP 98.
  • ELP 95 is a companion co-requisite course to ELP 98 for students who successfully complete ELP 70 and 75 (or who place into ELP 98/95 through the Test of English Language Proficiency in-house placement test).
