Program Overview


The Data Analytics in Accounting concentration at Douglas College equips students with the skills to analyze financial data, detect fraud, and utilize data analytics for decision-making. The program includes required courses in accounting and data analytics, as well as elective options in computer science and other relevant fields. Overview:

  • The Data Analytics in Accounting concentration is open to all Bachelor of Business Administration students at Douglas College.
  • The concentration requires the successful completion of 12 credits, including at least two required upper-level Accounting courses, one Computer Studies and Information Systems (CSIS) elective course, and one eligible elective course.
  • Students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.33 (C+) for the courses required to earn the concentration.

Objectives:

  • To provide students with the skills necessary to analyze financial statements, design and create interactive financial models, track new and existing data, and communicate their insights to management, enabling them to become part of the decision-making process.

Description:

  • The concentration prepares students for the rapidly growing field of data analytics, where the global consumption of data is projected to surpass all data produced and consumed in the past 30 years.
  • The program equips students with the expertise to detect accounting fraud, utilize data analytics for managerial decision-making, and apply computer programming and data analysis techniques to accounting and business problems.
