- The Graduate Certificate of Strength and Conditioning prepares students to enhance the strength, power, and endurance of their athletes, equipping them with expertise in developing customized strength and conditioning programs grounded in science and evidence.
Program Description
- Encompasses key areas of sport science, enabling students to solve complex challenges related to athlete performance enhancement.
- Provides comprehensive training in specialized methods across various domains, including strength and hypertrophy, plyometrics, speed, muscular power, aerobic and anaerobic power, periodisation, tapering methods, high-intensity interval training, and recovery methods.
- Complements technical skills with management capabilities through studies in leadership, culture development, and continuous improvement, equipping graduates for team success and support staff development.
- Rooted in scientific research, with contributions from Deakin academics specializing in training methods optimization, ensuring graduates can critically evaluate and apply research for evidence-based decision-making.
Outline
- Coursework comprises four of the ten units from Deakin's Master of Applied Sport Science.
- Course structure:
- Trimester 1: Academic Integrity Module (0 credit points), Exercise and Sport Laboratory Safety (0 credit points), Strength and Conditioning for High Performing Athletes
- Trimester 2: Athlete Development and Performance Management
- Trimester 3: Management and Leadership in High Performance Sport, Advanced Training Design for Sport
- Practical Intensive components are incorporated into three units: HSE721, HSE724, and HSE725.
- HSE721 intensives can be completed on-campus at Deakin University, Australia or online (video conferencing).
- HSE724 and HSE725 intensives must be attended either on campus at Deakin University, Australia or at Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Teaching:
- Program delivery mode: Online with on-campus intensives for specific units.
- Faculty: Experts in sport science, including researchers from Deakin's Centre for Sport Research (CSR) and Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN).
