Program Description:

The DEng program is a three-year doctoral program. The first year consists of coursework and a research project proposal, demonstrating the candidate's aptitude for research through a state-of-the-art literature review. The second year includes advanced coursework and research units, addressing deeper concepts in the candidate's discipline area and providing the necessary skills and knowledge for undertaking a doctoral-level dissertation. The third year is dedicated to the doctoral dissertation, which involves extending the work developed in the previous years and making a significant original contribution to the field.

The DEng program comprises 120 credit points, including coursework units and research-based units.


First Year:

  • Engineering Practice and Key Research Methodology (4 credit points)
  • Technology Evaluation and Intellectual Property (4 credit points)
  • Applied Mathematical Modelling and Simulation (4 credit points)
  • Data Acquisition (4 credit points)
  • Research Project Proposal (12 credit points)

Second Year:

  • Advanced Data Analysis (8 credit points)
  • Doctoral Dissertation Research Paper 1 (14 credit points)
  • Big Data Analysis and Pattern Recognition (8 credit points)
  • Doctoral Dissertation Research Paper 2 (14 credit points)

Third Year:

  • Doctoral Dissertation (48 credit points)

Elective Units:

Students can take up to 16 credit points of elective units, which must be approved by the supervisor and the ACC/Deputy Dean.
