Program Overview
St. John's University's Childhood/Special Education (1-6) program is a five-year program that prepares students to work with students with diverse learning needs in inclusive settings. The program includes two field experiences, two student teaching experiences, and graduate coursework in areas such as language acquisition, behavior management, and curriculum design. Graduates will be qualified to work as teachers, resource persons, and program organizers in inclusive settings.

The Childhood / Special Education (1-6), Bachelor of Science in Education / Master of Science in Education program at St. John's University is a five-year program that prepares students to work with students with diverse learning needs in inclusive settings as teachers, resource persons, and program organizers. The program includes two field experiences and two student teaching experiences, as well as numerous visits to special education facilities. Graduates will have knowledge of and experience with children with a variety of exceptionalities. The program also includes graduate coursework in the following areas:
- Language Acquisition and Literacy Development
- Collaborative Partnerships, Strategic Instruction, and Material Adaptations in Inclusive Settings: Childhood
- Practicum in Special Education: Childhood
- Planning and Managing Teaching and Learning Environments
- Educational Assessment of Individuals with Exceptionalities
- Curriculum and Instructional Design for Teaching Literacy to Individuals with Exceptionalities: Childhood
- Curriculum and Instructional Design for Individuals with Exceptionalities: Math, Science, and Social Studies
Careers:
Graduates of the Childhood / Special Education (1-6), Bachelor of Science in Education / Master of Science in Education program will be qualified to work as teachers, resource persons, and program organizers in inclusive settings.
