Assessment:
- Qualifying Examinations:
- Students must pass five of fourteen qualifying exams by the end of their second year, demonstrating proficiency in core courses.
- Yearly Progress Monitoring:
- Students must present their academic progress to their advisory committee annually, and any students not making adequate progress will be given one month to correct deficiencies or face dismissal from the program.
- Dissertation Proposal Examination:
- Students must pass a written and oral defense of their preliminary dissertation research accomplishments and plans by the end of their second year.
- Dissertation and Defense:
- Students must complete and successfully defend a written dissertation of their research.
Teaching:
- Students are initially advised by a graduate faculty member recommended by the graduate program advisor and approved by the Dean of the Graduate School.
