Program Outline
Degree Overview:
The HTC program in mathematics offers exceptional students the opportunity to earn a mathematics degree while working closely with faculty members in mathematics. Maximum opportunities will be afforded for the student to progress well beyond the material found in conventional courses, primarily through the interaction with professors afforded by the tutorials. Although the primary purpose of the tutorial program is to serve as preparation for graduate study in mathematics, many of our graduates do move on to graduate school in other fields.
Objectives:
1. Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of undergraduate mathematics with a particular area or areas penetrated well beyond the undergraduate level. Produce original, independent research in that chosen area. Demonstrate behavior that is consistent with expectations of professional work ethics and responsibility.
Careers:
Our students have gone on to pursue careers in academia, business, law, and medicine. Most of our graduates move on to graduate school after receiving their degree, many of them in fields other than mathematics, fields in which the mathematical expertise and research experience imparted by our program can be put to good use.
