Program Overview


This Animal Management (Science) diploma prepares students for careers in veterinary practice, animal care, and research. Through mandatory and optional units, students develop skills in animal care, veterinary science, and research methods. Assessment includes assignments, exams, and a portfolio of evidence, providing a comprehensive evaluation of student progress. Graduates may pursue employment in various animal-related fields or continue their studies at university, including a direct entry route to the Royal Veterinary College's Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Assessment:

The course includes a range of mandatory and optional units. You’ll complete all mandatory units and select four optional units from the list below, as determined by your Course Leader. Units are subject to change and availability.


Assessment

We’ll assess your progress in a number of ways including two externally set, externally moderated assignments; two externally set and externally marked exams; a portfolio of evidence, two unit assignments; and optional unit assessments as required.


Careers:

On completion of this diploma, you could seek employment in roles such as: Veterinary practice lab technician Veterinary practice lab assistant Veterinary practice clinical assistant Animal care assistant – managing the day-to-day care of companion animal patients under the supervision of a veterinary nursing team Equine technician – assisting an equine vet team with the investigation and treatment of horses Lay assistant – carrying out designated tasks on farms in support of a farm animal vet team Animal husbandry technician Research assistant (desk-based) Or you might choose to continue your studies, by progressing to a university degree course. Options at ARU Writtle – which shares a campus with Writtle College – include BSc (Hons) Animal Management and BSc (Hons) Animal Science. The Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management (Science) also offers a direct entry route to the Royal Veterinary College (RSV) Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed), dependant on achieving a D D D overall with Distinctions in: Biological Systems of Animals Synoptic Assessment (1) Synoptic Assessment (2) Theory Exam (2) Undertake Investigative Project in the Land-Based Industries
