• Year 1: Students gain a solid grounding in the law and legal systems of the United Kingdom, covering sources of law, statutory interpretation, the structure of the legal system, civil and criminal systems, access to justice, and the future of law.
They also develop fundamental legal skills such as fact handling, case reading, and research. Assessments include traditional exams, essays, as well as mooting, online discussions, group work, and presentations.
• Year 2: Students continue to focus on legal skills, developing confidence in conducting research and conveying ideas.
They tackle real-world problems by working with students from other disciplines through the Ruskin Module. They also study equity and trusts, and tort (civil wrongs and compensation for harm to people's rights, safety, and interests). Optional modules include family law, commercial law, medical law, and intellectual property. Assessments include traditional exams, essays, as well as mooting, online discussions, group work, and presentations.
• Year 3: Students have the chance to put their research skills into practice with their Major Project, where they focus on an area of interest, conduct research, evaluate information, and present their findings.
They also study property law and EU law. Further chances to explore specific areas of law are available through optional modules such as employment law, criminal litigation, civil litigation, and diversity and equality. Careers:

This law degree provides the first step to becoming a solicitor, barrister, or paralegal and covers the core foundations of legal knowledge and skills to help students on this path. Graduates can benefit from discounted access to the BARBRI Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) 1 and 2 preparation courses. The course also equips students with skills that can be used in related roles, including business and commerce, policy making, public services, or banking and finance. Employers and legal professionals often join students on campus for events such as guest lectures and careers fairs. While studying, students can gain valuable work experience in law clinics with supervision from qualified solicitors. They can also benefit from a mentoring scheme that partners them with a legal professional in their second year, and an undergraduate researcher scheme where they support a member of academic staff who works in their field of interest. After graduation, students can pursue an LLM in International Business and Commercial Law at ARU and take advantage of the Alumni Scholarship that offers a 20% discount on fees.
