Outline:

  • Year 1: Develop knowledge of legal and practical issues in health and social care, practical and interpersonal skills for positive change, inequality in health and social care, the sector and career frameworks.
  • Year 2: Examine politics and concepts surrounding mental health, long-term conditions, child protection, and a Ruskin Module.
  • Year 3: Explore cross-cultural perspectives of health and social care, and palliative and end of life care.

Additional course and living costs

  • You will be responsible for your own travel, accommodation, DBS and any general living costs associated with your placement/s during the programme.
  • You will be required to register with the DBS online update service, at a cost of £13 per year.
  • At Level 5 you will have the opportunity to undertake Level 1 Makaton as part of the Understanding Learning Disabilities and Physical Disabilities module.
  • This will incur an additional charge of £50.
  • You will also have the chance to gain a Mental Health First Aid certificate as part of the Holistic approaches to Mental Health, which may incur an additional cost.
  • At Level 6 you will attend a four-day European residential trip as part of the Cross-Cultural Perspectives of Health and Social Care module.
  • The costs of flights, bed and breakfast accommodation and trips are included in the course cost, but you will be responsible for all other additional costs including additional meals, passport, insurance and visa (if applicable).
