Program Overview
This Level 3 Horticulture and Landscape Supervisor apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with classroom workshops to develop core knowledge and skills. Through a portfolio and End Point Assessment, apprentices demonstrate their proficiency in horticulture and landscaping practices. Upon completion, they gain a Level 3 apprenticeship and industry-recognized certifications, opening doors to various roles in the horticulture industry.
Program Outline
Assessment:
Throughout your on-the-job training you will develop a portfolio to demonstrate your core knowledge, skills and behaviours and be assessed throughout your training. You must also either already have Maths and English at Level 2 or obtain these prior to the end-point-assessment. You will also undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete your apprenticeship. The EPA for this apprenticeship consists of three parts: i. practical assessment with questioning; ii. project report and presentation with questioning; iii. professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio. Depending on the pathway, you will also gain the following certification: Ofqual regulated Level 3 award in first aid at work (three-day course). Horticulture Supervisor Pathway – City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides Using Pedestrian Hand Held Equipment AND City & Guilds Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides. Landscaping Supervisor Pathway – City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Abrasive Wheel Machines OR Lantra Abrasive Wheel Machines.
Teaching:
The Horticulture and Landscape Supervisor apprenticeship has been designed to provide you with the expertise you need, and the flexibility to customise learning to suit your specialism and employment. In most cases, the apprenticeship is delivered predominantly in the workplace, with regular training workshops held at Writtle College by qualified, professional members of staff with industry experience. Your tutor will work with you as you progress through the apprenticeship. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will be required to complete an independent End-Point Assessment to prove you have gained the required skills to achieve the apprenticeship.
Careers:
Upon successful completion of this course, you'll have a Level 3 Horticulture and Landscape Supervisor apprenticeship and a minimum of 30 months' relevant work experience. The skills, knowledge and experience you develop during the course will open a range of roles in horticulture industry. Typical career paths you might follow include botanical horticulturalist, horticultural supervisor, horticulture team leader, landscape supervisor, and senior gardener.

Entry requirements:
- Employment in a suitable role on a permanent contract exceeding 30 hours per week.
- Either Level 2 in Maths and English; or Level 1 in Maths and English and willingness to study at level 2*.
- Employer support to undertake this course.
- Confirmed eligibility to be funded as an apprentice as set out within the ESFA’s Funding Rules.
- A completed Initial Needs Assessment Form.
