Program Overview
The Equine Groom Apprenticeship is a day-release program that combines on-the-job training with college attendance. Through a portfolio and End Point Assessment, apprentices demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and behaviors. Upon completion, they earn a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship and gain experience for roles in horse care, such as stable hand, groom, and riding school assistant.
Program Outline
Assessment:
Throughout your on-the-job training you will develop a portfolio to demonstrate your core knowledge, skills and behaviours and be assessed throughout your training. You will also undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete your apprenticeship. The EPA for this apprenticeship consists of three parts: knowledge test, practical observation, and professional discussion and review of your portfolio
Teaching:
The Equine Groom Apprenticeship is delivered by a day-release model, with college attendance required for one day a week during term time. The college day includes both theory and practical sessions.
Careers:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will have a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship as well as a minimum of 12 months relevant work experience. The skills, knowledge and experience you develop during the course will open a wide range of roles in horse care. Some typical job titles for an Equine Groom Apprentice include stable hand, groom, stud assistant, and riding school assistant.

Entry requirements
In addition to the person specifications that have been set out by your employer, these are the entry requirements for the course. Employment in a suitable role on a permanent contract exceeding 30 hours per week GCSE Grade 2 /E in Maths and English or equivalent. Students below a GCSE 4 / C will be required to study Level 2 Functional Skills whilst at college, alongside their apprenticeship Employer support to undertake this course Confirmed eligibility to be funded as an apprentice as set out within the ESFA’s Funding Rules A completed Initial Needs Assessment Form
