Program Overview

The Equine Groom Apprenticeship is a day-release program that combines on-the-job training with college attendance. Through a portfolio and End Point Assessment, apprentices demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and behaviors. Upon completion, they earn a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship and gain experience for roles in horse care, such as stable hand, groom, and riding school assistant.

Program Outline

Assessment:

Throughout your on-the-job training you will develop a portfolio to demonstrate your core knowledge, skills and behaviours and be assessed throughout your training. You will also undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete your apprenticeship. The EPA for this apprenticeship consists of three parts: knowledge test, practical observation, and professional discussion and review of your portfolio

Teaching:

The Equine Groom Apprenticeship is delivered by a day-release model, with college attendance required for one day a week during term time. The college day includes both theory and practical sessions.

Careers:

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will have a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship as well as a minimum of 12 months relevant work experience. The skills, knowledge and experience you develop during the course will open a wide range of roles in horse care. Some typical job titles for an Equine Groom Apprentice include stable hand, groom, stud assistant, and riding school assistant.
