Degree Overview:
This course is a three-year part-time Masters in Biomedical Science that is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). As a working biomedical scientist, this postgraduate degree will take you on the next step toward Chartered Scientist status. This course is offered by distance learning and is designed to fit in with your working life. It is a great asset to your professional development. You’ll have the opportunity to tailor your studies by choosing a specialist pathology area. Through this, you can either enhance your knowledge and understanding of your current field or open up a new career path in a different specialization or area such as management.
Outline:
The course is structured into three years of part-time study, with each year consisting of two modules. The modules are delivered through a combination of online learning and face-to-face tutorials.

Year 2
- Biomedical Specialisms 1 - Epidemiology and Pathogenesis
- Biomedical Specialisms 2 - Diagnostics and Treatment
Year 3
- Masters Project You will be able to choose a specialist pathology area in your second year of study. The available specializations are:
- Hematology
- Clinical chemistry
- Cellular pathology
- Medical microbiology
- Cross-disciplinary In your final year, you will carry out a significant piece of research, which will involve a literature review as well as data collection, analysis, and write-up.
Assessment:
Your progress will be assessed using the portfolios of evidence you’ll create for each taught module, as well as your final year dissertation.
Teaching:
You will be taught through our learning management system (Canvas), where you can read and download learning activities and upload your work for assessment. A number of activities will be carried out in your workplace and are aimed at evidence-gathering as well as improving employability skills appropriate to your work environment. Self-evaluation is an important part of your learning throughout this course and for all modules (except the Masters Project) you’ll produce a critical reflective commentary justifying your approach.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in biomedical science or equivalent, HNC with bridging course, or HNC plus laboratory experience. Applicants should be employed in an appropriate laboratory to support learning and the project. Each applicant is considered on an individual basis. All applicants are advised to contact Dr Richard Jones (richard.jones@anglia.ac.uk) prior to application. Two references must be supplied.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 ( Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
