Program Overview
This accredited foundation-level training in systemic therapy provides healthcare professionals and others working with families, couples, and individuals with a comprehensive understanding of systemic approaches and new perspectives for their work. The program includes face-to-face teaching sessions and assessment through an essay and reflective portfolio, and it can serve as the first step towards qualifying as a family therapist.

- Study at Huntingdon, gain a level of professional accreditation, and potentially start on the road to becoming a qualified family therapist.
Outline:
- The course is for healthcare staff and other professionals who work with families, couples and individuals.
- It helps with grasping systemic working and thinking, introducing different perspectives on work and a new approach to working with families, individuals and couples.
- The course does not qualify you as a family therapist, but it is accredited by the Association of Family Therapy (AFT) and referred to as "foundation level training." It is the equivalent of the first year of four years' training to qualify as a family therapist.
- Teaching takes place in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Newtown Centre on Nursery Road.
Assessment:
- Assessment is by one 3,000-word essay and a portfolio which includes a weekly reflective account of your learning.
- To comply with AFT's requirements, the course is extended to complete in early July.
Teaching:
- Teaching sessions take place every other Wednesday during term times between 3pm and 8pm.
- Delivery is face-to-face in Huntingdon.

- This module forms the first part of the PG Cert Family Therapy and Systemic Practice course.

Entry Requirements:
- Relevant professional training (in nursing, psychology, social work, psychiatry and other medical specialties, teaching, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, counselling, and dance, drama or music therapy), or equivalent (such as substantial experience as a child and family worker, foster carer, etc)
