Program Outline
Degree Overview:
The Gateway Veterinary Program is a 15-week preclinical and clinical sciences program designed for students conditionally accepted to St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine (SMUSVM). The program aims to bolster existing knowledge with foundational veterinary concepts and skills, enhance learning skills through individualized coaching, and foster networking among future veterinary students. It runs three times a year (January, May, September), and upon completion, students enter the next SMUSVM DVM class. Graduates may qualify for SMUSVM DVM Program scholarships based on their combined GPA from Gateway and undergraduate studies. Part-time and asynchronous online options are available. The program boasts a 3:1 student-to-faculty ratio and faculty with PhDs and/or MDs and extensive experience teaching veterinary students. A Gateway Grant of $2,500 USD (applicable to 2024, 2025, and subsequent cohorts) reduces tuition costs, though a $2,500 USD administrative cost remains.
Outline:
The curriculum includes clinical anatomy, physiology, cellular and molecular biology, and principles of veterinary medicine.
Teaching:
The Gateway Program utilizes a low student-to-faculty ratio of 3:1, enabling personalized instruction. 100% of Gateway faculty hold either a PhD, MD, or both, and possess extensive experience teaching veterinary students.
Other:
The program offers a built-in support system of friends and study partners for students. Students can attend either full-time or part-time. Online students can participate asynchronously.
