Program Outline
Degree Overview:
The Gateway Medical Program is a 15-week preclinical and clinical sciences program designed for students conditionally accepted to St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine (SMUSOM). It aims to bolster existing knowledge by focusing on foundational concepts and skills needed for medical school, enhance learning styles through individualized coaching, and grow students' networks by creating a built-in support system. The program is offered online or on-campus (on Nevis at the Medical University of the Americas) three times yearly (January, May, September). Upon completion, students enter the next SMUSOM medical school class. Graduates may qualify for SMUSOM MD Program scholarships based on their combined GPA (Gateway Program and undergraduate study) or MCAT score, whichever yields a higher scholarship. Part-time and asynchronous online options are available. The program's objective is to prepare conditionally accepted students for the rigors of medical school by strengthening their foundational knowledge and skills, improving their learning strategies, and fostering a supportive peer network.
Outline:
The 15-week curriculum covers clinical anatomy, medical physiology, cellular and molecular biology, and principles of medicine.
Teaching:
The Gateway Program boasts a 3:1 student-to-faculty ratio, enabling personalized instruction.
