Degree Overview:
The International Master in Sustainability and Circular Bioeconomy Management equips students with core management knowledge and specialization in Sustainability Management and Circular Bioeconomy. The program aims to help students rethink businesses and create value by addressing topics such as the physical dimensions of sustainability, smart cities, renewable energy, and the principles and benefits of sustainability management and circular bioeconomy. It also provides key knowledge of fundraising (for the Just Transition Mechanism) of the European Commission's valuable project "A European Green Deal". Learning outcomes include understanding sustainability frameworks (distinguishing between corporate sustainability, CSR, ESG, and circular bioeconomy), sustainable leadership and circular business models, performance measurement tools for sustainable investments, the role of Big Data, IoT, and blockchain in driving sustainability, and expertise in sustainable biomaterials, bioproducts, and strategies for securing funding for scalable innovations. The program is designed around four pillars: real link with companies, internationality, professional impact, and higher purpose.
Outline:
The program is structured around three modules: Circular Bio Economy: Circular Bio Economy, waste management, resource recovery, clean energy production, biodiversity management, sustainable supply chain management, and EU funding within the European Circular Economy Strategy. Sustainable leadership and change management: Sustainable strategies and business models, driving organizational change, engaging stakeholders, governance of a sustainable business, leveraging diversity and inclusion, and business canvas for value creation. Measurement and Reporting of Sustainable performance: Corporate accountability, transparency, greenwashing, sustainable finance, ESG investing and ratings, limitations of conventional accounting, sustainability reporting and KPIs, and regulatory developments.
Module 3: Build sustainable bioeconomy, manage technologies and become a socially responsible leader:
This module covers: Integration of Technologies in sustainable business models: Renewable Energy Technologies, digital tools for sustainable business, Big data and IoT for environmental management, and blockchain for transparent supply chains. Innovation in Circular Bio Economy: Social and sustainable innovations, practical biomaterials and bioproducts, business model innovation in bioeconomy, and scaling sustainable innovations. In addition to these core modules, the program includes:
- Electives: Students can choose electives from seven main areas of interest: Next Gen Business (Innovation, AI, and Digital Growth), and Global Business Excellence (Industry Business Excellence, International Business, Global Electives with RBS international partner Business Schools, and Introduction to preparation for professional certifications).
- Practice Lab (with ENILIVE): A hands-on lab where theoretical concepts are put into practice with ENILIVE managers, focusing on decarbonized mobility.
- Business in Action - Hands-on Lab (Global Trends Lab): Two virtual sessions focusing on identifying and understanding the impact of global trends on businesses.
- Capstone Project: Students tackle a real business challenge from a corporate partner. The program's structure is broken down as follows: 5% Managerial Core, 35% Focusing and Specializing, 10% Innovative and Responsible Leadership, 10% Electives, 15% Business in Action, 5% Global Trends Lab, and 20% Capstone Project.
Teaching:
The program utilizes a combination of theoretical learning and practical application. Teaching methods include lectures, case studies, hands-on labs (Business Practice Lab with ENILIVE), company visits, in-class exercises, and participation in international bootcamps. The faculty comprises highly qualified international university professors, trainers, and business managers from various operational and professional fields.
