About Program

Program Overview

The Global MBA reflects the pedagogic philosophy of Bayes Business School (formerly Cass): an advanced, technically challenging, and integrated education to prepare business professionals and leaders to operate at decision-making levels.

On this part-time programme, you can look forward to experiencing the best of both online and face-to-face learning during your studies.

  • The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme and the Integration Week are delivered face-to-face at our on-campus weeks
  • Global MBA core modules are taught online. Choose up to six online elective modules to personalise your learning pathway.

The Bayes approach to learning

During your time on the programme, you will learn the theoretical foundations of various decision-making tools and how to apply them in practical, industry-based contexts.

This overarching ethos, as well as the breadth and structure of the programme, will be supported by a compatible range of learning strategies. For example, you will:

  • Engage with foundational theory using a variety of online resources; this element of your studies will involve both self-study and direct interaction with our academics during weekly webinars
  • Develop your skills in the practical application of theory through extensive use of case discussion, formal lectures in webinars, group work, workshops, formative exercises, and projects
  • Undertake an integrating exercise, which will bring together your theoretical learning and practical application gained during the core modules in a real-world environment

You will also undertake individual study and group work in virtual teams for the preparation of case studies, research tasks, and other assignments, assessed or not.

This will consolidate your acquired knowledge and build the interpersonal and communication skills that are essential for your further career development.

Program Outline

Year one

The main focus of Year One is completion of six online core modules. You will study one module at a time, enabling you to really immerse yourself in the subject matter and not have to worry about competing deadlines on other areas of the programme.

The first three core modules are:

Marketing

This module provides an overview of marketing for enterprise. Its aim is to demonstrate the usefulness of market analysis and skillful marketing in the context of the whole business operation.

With a focus on strategic, tactical and contemporary marketing critical to any organisation’s success and survival, this module will help you understand and practice the analytical skills, managerial insights, marketing tasks, and teamwork necessary for marketing to create advantage for your organisation.

The module covers:

  • What is marketing and what is the value of marketing for an organisation?
  • Understanding the customer: market research and customer behaviour
  • Managing the offering: product positioning and branding
  • Managing the offering: services and pricing
  • Managing the offering: place and retail
  • Communicating value: digital marketing

Module Leader

The Marketing module is led by Dr Laetitia Mimoun.

Operations and Supply Chain Management

Through this module, you’ll develop an understanding of operations as they pertain within a function, across functions within the same organisation, and across organisations, with a view to doing things better.

The module covers:

  • The operations of projects vs mass production to better match the volume and variety of activities in any operation
  • Improving value to an organisation
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Risk management
  • Viability
  • Ethical considerations in operations
  • Business models

Module Leader

The Operations and Supply Chain Management module is led by Professor ManMohan Sodhi.

Technology and Innovation

This module will provide you with specialist knowledge and practical tools for the management of technology and innovation.

Although technology adoption and development has long been associated with the operations of organisations, it is increasingly conceptualised as a multidisciplinary activity involving strategy, research and development (R&D), marketing, organisational behaviour and project management.

The concept of innovation frequently transcends the organisation. As such, you’ll study innovation in the context of wider stakeholders, including customers, other agents in the supply chain, clusters of companies and ecosystems.

The module covers:

  • The concepts of technology and innovation
  • Models and classifications
  • Success factors and problems
  • The resource allocation problem
  • Interdepartmental tensions
  • Innovation strategy – how to foster innovation in an organisation

Module Leader

The Technology and Innovation module is led by Dr Sara Jones.

Upon completion of these modules, we will look forward to welcoming you to our London campus for Professional Development Week.

During this time, you will get to develop and hone your key leadership communication skills and consider what it means for you to achieve your career potential.

You will then study the following three modules:

Leading People in Organisations

The module will give you a comprehensive understanding of how people behave in organisations. It will also provide you with some tools for intervening to change behaviours.

Finally, it will encourage you to reflect on your own behaviour within organisations, consider whether that might be changed, and provide you with tools for changing it where necessary.

The module covers:

  • Understanding organisational behaviour from multiple perspectives. You’ll be introduced to a range of different frames which you can use to understand and analyse organisational behaviour.
  • Motivation. You’ll look at the role of individual drivers at work. In particular, you’ll explore what motivates people at work.
  • Groups and teams. In this section, you’ll explore how people interact in teams at work. You’ll be introduced to a range of ideas about team dynamics in the workplace, as well as the principles of decision-making in teams.
  • Culture. In this section, you’ll look at the role of culture at work. You’ll consider issues like symbolism, rituals, cultural roles and how people are inducted into new cultures. You’ll also consider issues such as whether you can manage and change a culture.
  • Politics. You’ll look at the dynamics of organisational politics and explore how people gain power, how they use it, and how they might lose it.
  • Structure. In this section, you’ll look at the different kinds of organisational structures, and consider the impact they have on individual and collective behaviour at work.

Module Leader

The Leading People in Organisations module is led by Professor André Spicer

Finance

The aim of this module is to introduce you to the field of corporate finance.

Corporate finance deals with all the activities involved in managing cash flows of a firm. Firms grow by making investments. Investments require capital. Investors have to be repaid with the cash flows generated.

You’ll explore all the main corporate finance functions and the overarching principles that govern them, such as the time value of money and the risk-return trade off, market efficiency, and the goal of value maximisation.

The module covers:

  • Corporate Finance and the Corporate Objective Function
  • Valuing Securities and Firms
  • Evaluating Investment Projects: Alternative Decision Rules
  • Dealing with Uncertainty in Capital Budgeting
  • CAPM and the Cost of Capital
  • Capital Structure: An Introduction

Module Leader

The Finance module is led by Professor Andrew Clare.

Strategy

The aim of this module is to develop your ability to design and execute better strategy. It focuses on strategic decision-making and the long-term successful direction of an organisation.

You’ll explore central themes in corporate strategy and the key questions faced by multi-business firms, including:

  • Under what conditions should firms engage in horizontal diversification?
  • What are the pros and cons of vertical integration versus outsourcing?
  • How can companies compete successfully in the international arena?
  • How can corporate strategy be successfully implemented?

In addition to the fundamental theories of corporate strategy, you’ll also explore the application of these theories in real-life situations.

The module covers:

  • What is our “strategy”?
  • How can the characteristics of an industry be assessed and how do they contribute to determine companies’ profitability?
  • What is competitive advantage and how can it be achieved?
  • How can competitive advantage be sustained over time?
  • The scope of the firm
  • Horizontal diversification
  • Vertical integration
  • Geographic expansion
  • Implementing corporate strategy

Module Leader

The Strategy module is led by Dr Aulia Syakhroza.

On completion of these core modules, you will join with your cohort to take part in Integration Week in London.

This interactive and applied module draws on the various perspectives and knowledge that you have developed throughout Year One. You will have the opportunity to work on real-life business challenges, gain industry insights and develop consulting and negotiating skills. It is also an opportunity to celebrate achievements and network with faculty and peers.

Year Two of the Global MBA can be shaped and personalised according to your specific goals. There are three main elements to this stage of the programme.

Elective modules

Most students take six elective modules during Year Two and there is a large number of modules to choose from. Some subjects link back to the core modules you studied in Year One and dive deeper into specialist areas within them. Other areas are emerging areas of business that impact on decisions that leaders need to make now and in the future.

Corporate Social Responsibility core module

Learning about corporate social responsibility (CSR) is of paramount importance in today’s interconnected and conscious business landscape. The Global MBA embeds the significance of the topics included in CSR throughout the programme but this dedicated module is an important opportunity to reflect on and draw these aspects together.

Business Mastery project

You choose the topic for this significant piece of work, meaning you can ensure it has practical relevance and can be implemented to support your goals. You are supported throughout the process by a specialist supervisor, the course director and the wider Global MBA team.

One of the most valuable ways you can personalise your Global MBA is by choosing to specialise in a particular area of business via a concentration.

Concentrations are private recognitions achieved by taking at least 40 credits from specific elective modules in a subject group. This recognition is independent from the MBA award, which remains exactly the same.

These electives enable you to build depth of expertise in an area, as well as on the breadth of knowledge that the MBA provides. The electives within each concentration are thematically linked, but each will focus on a different angle of the subject you’ve chosen.

You can follow one or more concentrations if you have the flexibility to sign up for electives in different formats and there are no clashes in your timetable.

Choosing your concentration

The Global MBA currently offers fully online concentrations in five different areas:

  • Corporate strategy: this concentration builds on the core content of Year 1, developing advanced strategy skills. As well as exploring business models and change processes, there are opportunities to understand the competitive advantage that technology and innovation can offer.
  • Business analytics: the use of data to inform all areas of business has become increasingly important. Understand more about how data can be harnessed, communicated, and visualised to have the most impact for your professional practice.
  • Digital business: focuses on a range of current areas in the ever-evolving technology landscape. This concentration considers how these new and emerging areas shape business and how to effectively manage the continuous changes new developments bring.
  • Innovation and entrepreneurship: often chosen by those who are running their own business or thinking about setting up their own venture in the future. Combining theory with practical considerations, this concentration can provide you with the foundations for a successful enterprise as well as exploring how to maximise value from innovation.
  • Finance: the fundamentals of corporate finance are a key part of Year 1 studies and this concentration offers the opportunity to specialise further in key areas such as investment strategy and real estate.

You can dive even deeper into an area or areas of your choice via the Business Mastery Project – a highly focused piece of work where you choose the subject that has the most relevance for you. You can choose to explore a business challenge you’re facing, research an emerging area of interest or build a business plan if you are planning on starting or expanding your own enterprise.

Taking a concentration is an optional part of your Global MBA, but it is a great way of evidencing your knowledge and expertise to employers, particularly if you are thinking of changing your career path or expanding your remit.

Your MBA is an investment of time and money to further your career. You’ve got one opportunity to get it right.
