Critical Care Online MSc

This one-year, part-time online program aims to equip healthcare professionals with the essential expertise and knowledge base necessary to advance their careers within Critical Care Medicine. It accomplishes this by focusing specifically on providing an online theoretical understanding of managing critically ill or injured patients in addition to the skills related to supporting their families. Additionally, there is a specific emphasis on preparing participants to generate original thought leadership within specialist areas and for independent, innovative research in order to positively impact healthcare practices within this domain.


Structure and Objectives:

Students can choose either a one or two-year study pathway for this MSc program. Both formats offer online, asynchronous instruction via Queen Mary's virtual learning environment, QMplus. There are no required in-person meetings for this program which allows healthcare professionals in any geographical location the flexibility to participate without impacting their existing work schedules. There are several core components included in the program's curriculum: A review of basic physiology and its relationship to critical illness Familiarity with advanced technologies used in resuscitation The modules of instruction within this program are divided to allow students to concentrate their studies within their area of interest:

  • Module 5: Acute Neurology and ICU Management

Outline:

Students have the option to focus their studies and develop more in-depth knowledge within a specific area of their choosing. Students have the ability in this program to select the modules that will be included in their chosen area of specialization within Critical Care. Students in this concentration will focus primarily on the unique considerations related to critical care and treatment of pediatric and neonatal patients.


Finally, participants may select to specialize in Cardiovascular Care.

They should complete modules 1- 3 followed by 34 and either 9 or 35 in order to fulfill requirements for this concentration area. This MSc program also requires a dissertation, which can take the form of a narrative review of existing literature, a case series, an audit, research study, or even a quality improvement project. Students can select the form to best meet their specific interests in terms of the subject of research they wish to pursue and their own goals in their professional life after graduation. This will ensure the most meaningful work is accomplished, benefiting both current healthcare practice and the student's future career endeavors. All modules in this format include: In addition, participants also have the chance to interact with other individuals engaged in the Critical Care community via an annual conference held within London. There may be optional, on-campus opportunities available in certain situations requiring participants from multiple global locations to travel. This will be determined on a year-by-year basis. Faculty members for individual courses within this program have extensive real-world expertise within critical care, and many maintain active positions within healthcare practices in addition to their roles at QMUL.

Applicants with a primary degree in medicine

  • EU/EEA/Swiss students: You must have a primary degree in medicine or a recognised equivalent.

  • You will also need to provide evidence of relevant clinical experience.
