Program Outline
Degree Overview:
Objective:
This program aims to provide students with the scientific principles and clinical applications of regenerative medicine. The program will equip graduates with the knowledge and skills to conduct research and develop novel therapies in this rapidly growing field.
Description:
The MSc Regenerative Medicine is a one-year, full-time postgraduate program. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the biology and mechanisms underlying regenerative medicine. Students will also gain hands-on experience in a range of research techniques, including cell culture, molecular biology, and tissue engineering. The program culminates in a research project, allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world research problem.
Outline:
The MSc Regenerative Medicine program is divided into two parts:
Part 1: Taught Modules (3 months)
Students will take four taught modules, each worth 15 credits:
- Cell and Molecular Basis of Regeneration
- Stem Cell and Developmental Biology
- Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering
- Research Skills and Methodology
Part 2: Research Project (6 months)
Students will undertake a research project, supervised by a member of the research faculty.
Individual modules:
Cell and Molecular Basis of Regeneration
This module will provide students with a fundamental understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of regeneration. Topics covered will include cell signaling, stem cell biology, and tissue regeneration.
Stem Cell and Developmental Biology
This module will explore the biology of stem cells and their role in the development and regeneration of tissues and organs. Topics covered will include stem cell types, differentiation, and the therapeutic potential of stem cells.
Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering
This module will introduce students to the principles and techniques of biomaterials and tissue engineering. Topics covered will include biomaterial design, scaffold fabrication, and tissue regeneration.
Research Skills and Methodology
This module will equip students with the necessary research skills and methodology to conduct a successful research project. Topics covered will include experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing.
Assessment:
Assessment methods:
Students will be assessed through a combination of written exams, coursework assignments, and oral presentations. The criteria will be based on the learning outcomes for the module.
Teaching:
Teaching methods:
The program uses a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, group work, and practical exercises. Seminars are an important part of the program, allowing students to discuss the taught material and their research projects with their peers and faculty. The program also includes a number of guest lectures from leading experts in the field of regenerative medicine.
