The Law and Finance PGDip
is a specialized program offered by the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) at the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). Law and Finance
Covers both law and finance with the following modules:
- International Banking Regulation : This module offers a comparative and theoretical perspective toward banking regulation.
- Banking Law and Financial Regulation : This module focuses on different aspects of UK banking law such as bank insolvency, security, payments, lending, retail banking, and deposit taking.
- Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Finance Law : With this module, you will learn about acquisitions, mergers, reorganizations from a UK perspective through case studies including analysis of relevant case law and statutory framework.
- Corporate Finance Practice : This module looks at corporate finance issues such as venture capital fund raising, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity.
- Investment Funds : This advanced module introduces the legal and regulatory framework involved in investment funds.

Structure
You will need to complete 120 credits in total: 45 credits must be chosen from law; and 45 credits must be chosen from finance 30 credits must be taken from either law and/or finance Students may have the option to attend the following pre-sessional courses held during induction week: Pre-sessional course in mathematics and statistics (optional) Pre-sessional course in law (optional)

Teaching:
Lectures provide an overview of the subject and case studies while seminars focus on case discussions and problem-solving for in-depth learning and analysis. For example, in the Banking Law and Financial Regulation module, approximately 20 - 25 lectures will take place as well as 9 - 10 seminars. During the coursework assessment, your lectures in this module will provide comprehensive case studies along with lectures that look at relevant statutory instruments and sections of legislation. Seminar activities include group discussions, collaborative brainstorming sessions, guest speaker sessions involving experienced practitioners and regulators from the finance and legal industries, and Q&A sessions with the module convenor regarding assessment issues and concerns as well as topics and themes addressed in lectures. Seminars involve in-depth case law analysis and discussions relating to assigned chapters and critical evaluation of related articles and case summaries.
