Degree Overview:
The Intellectual Property Law (IP Reg) PGCert is a postgraduate certificate program designed to equip trainees and newly qualified patent and trademark attorneys with in-depth knowledge and skills in intellectual property (IP) law, technology, and practice. The program allows participants to specialize in the key areas of IP law, including patents, trademarks, designs, and copyright.
Objectives:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of IP law and its application.
- Gain practical skills in drafting and prosecuting patent and trademark applications.
- Prepare participants for the professional examinations for patent and trademark attorneys.

Program description:
The program is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials. The program is offered on a part-time basis, with classes held on Fridays and two Saturdays per month. Participants are expected to attend all classes and actively participate in discussions and activities.

Semester 1:
- Fundamentals of English Law and Professional Ethics: This module provides an introduction to the English legal system and the professional ethics of lawyering.
- Intellectual Property Law: This module covers the key principles of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, designs, and copyright.
- Copyright Law: This module focuses on the law of copyright, including the rights and limitations of copyright owners.
- Patent Law B: This module builds on the knowledge gained in Patent Law A and covers more advanced topics, such as patent litigation and licensing.
- Trade Mark Law B: This module builds on the knowledge gained in Trade Mark Law A and covers more advanced topics, such as trade mark litigation and licensing.
Assessment:
The program is assessed through a combination of coursework, examinations, and a dissertation.
