Degree Overview:

Practical classes are taught in the purpose-built teaching laboratory, which is well equipped with all necessary materials and is based on a routine clinical microbiology laboratory.

Outline:

Compulsory modules include:

• Antimicrobials in the laboratory and in clinical practice
• Advanced clinical microbiology and laboratory management
• Prevention and control of communicable disease in the hospital and in the community
• Professional and research skills
• Clinical microbiology and infection
• Molecular biology, immunology and pathogenesis

Optional theoretical tutorials include:

• Introduction to clinical bacteriology and virology
• Introduction to clinical parasitology and mycology

This research can be empirical or theoretical, providing an opportunity to develop independent research skills.

Assessment:

The in-course assessments consist of literature reviews, oral and poster presentations, and practical and written exams. The in-course assessments assess students' ability to apply their knowledge and understanding to real-world scenarios. The dissertation is assessed by two examiners, who are experts in the field of clinical microbiology.
