Program Outline
Cancer Genomics and Data Science Online MSc
Degree Overview:
The Cancer Genomics and Data Science Online MSc is a part-time, distance-learning program designed for professionals with a background in biomedical sciences, data science, or related fields who are interested in developing expertise in the application of genomics and data science to cancer research and clinical practice. The program aims to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge required to analyze multi-layer large scale cancer datasets, interpret complex genomic data, and apply data science techniques to identify novel cancer biomarkers and develop targeted therapeutic interventions.
Outline:
The program consists of eight compulsory modules, a research project, and three optional modules. The compulsory modules cover fundamental principles of cancer genomics, data analysis and interpretation, machine learning, and bioinformatics. The research project allows students to apply their learning to a specific research question in the field of cancer genomics. The optional modules provide students with the opportunity to specialize in specific areas of interest, such as single cell analytics, mathematical modeling, and cancer immunotherapy.
Assessment:
The program utilizes a variety of assessment methods, including short and long answer coursework, multiple choice questions, presentations, and research dissertations. Assessment criteria are based on the depth of knowledge demonstrated, the ability to apply concepts and techniques, the critical thinking skills employed, and the effective communication of findings.
Teaching:
The program is delivered through a combination of online lectures, practical sessions, and interactive discussions. The lectures are delivered by expert academics and researchers in the field of cancer genomics and data science. The practical sessions provide students with hands-on experience in applying data analysis and interpretation techniques to real-world cancer datasets. The interactive discussions allow students to engage with the learning materials, ask questions, and discuss their research interests with their peers and instructors.
Careers:
Graduates of the program can pursue careers in a variety of sectors, including academia, research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnology startups. Potential career paths include bioinformatician, data analyst, computational biologist, and researcher. The program also equips graduates with the skills and knowledge required to pursue further research in the field of cancer genomics and data science.
Other:
The program is offered in collaboration with the Barts Cancer Institute, one of the leading cancer research centers in the UK. This collaboration provides students with access to world-renowned expertise and research facilities.
