Program Overview


The MSc Finance (Quantitative Finance) program equips students with advanced knowledge in statistical and quantitative approaches to risk and derivatives. Overview:

This program is designed to equip students with specialist knowledge of statistical and quantitative approaches to risk and derivatives. The program also covers the ethical considerations and challenges of quantitative finance, providing a well-rounded education in this specialized area.

Structure:

The program consists of six modules. Students are required to complete four core modules and two elective modules from a list of available options. The core modules are:

  • Econometric Analysis and Applications
  • Econometric Principles and Data Analysis
  • Financial Econometrics
  • Modelling Firms and Markets
  • The elective modules are:
  • Bank Regulation and Resolution of Banking Crises
  • Banking and Capital Markets
  • Corporate Finance

  • The IMF and Economic Policy
  • Each module lasts 10 weeks and is typically available in at least two of the year's study sessions. This allows students to plan their studies around their professional, family, and personal commitments.

Assessment:

Students are assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations. The coursework consists of two assignments per module. The examinations are three hours in duration and are held on a specified date in September/October. The coursework and examinations are weighted 70:30, respectively.


Teaching:

The program is delivered through a combination of online learning materials, virtual tutorials, and self-study. Students have access to a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which provides access to all necessary learning resources, including lecture recordings, lecture notes, and past exam papers. Students also have the opportunity to interact with their peers and lecturers through online discussion forums.
