Program Description:

• One-year intensive program for students with a background in History or related disciplines.
• Focuses on the histories of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
• Offers a strong foundation in historical theory and methodology.
• Includes a significant language component in a chosen African or Asian language.
• Culminates in a 60-credit dissertation on a topic related to the chosen region of specialization.

• Debating Pasts:
Examines the historiographies of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
• Crafting Histories:
Focuses on historical research methods and writing skills.

Regional Pathways:

• Students choose one of five regional pathways: Africa, East Asia, Near and Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
• Each pathway offers a selection of specialized modules focusing on the history, cultures, and societies of the chosen region.

Summer School:

• Students participate in a 45-credit Summer School program in the chosen language, which is usually held abroad.

Dissertation:

• Students complete a 60-credit dissertation on a topic related to their chosen region of specialization.

Assessment:

• Continuous assessment through essays, presentations, and other forms of coursework.
• Final assessment through a 60-credit dissertation.
