Visual Effects BSc (Hons)

at De Montfort University has been developed in collaboration with industry professionals to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the VFX field. The program's curriculum covers a broad range of areas, including:

• VFX and compositing basics
• 3D modeling and animation
• Match-moving and motion capture
• Tracking, rigging, and compositing
• Industry-standard software such as Maya, Nuke, Unreal, After Effects, Houdini, Substance Painter, and DaVinci Resolve
• Creative flair and understanding of the VFX production process
The program aims to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute to the multi-billion dollar film and television industry. Graduates can pursue careers as compositors, matte painters, colourists, finishers, and more.

• Film and Photography Capture
• Introduction to VFX
• 3D Modelling and Animation
• Commercial Content Production

Year Two:

• Film and Photography Techniques
• Character Animation and MoCap
• Compositing and Matte Painting
• Creative Enterprise

Year Three:

• 3D for Film and Animation
• Compositing for Film and Broadcast
• (Choose one) Short Film Production OR Post-production and Editing OR Virtual Production and Immersive Technology
• Portfolio Project

Teaching:

• Block teaching approach with one module studied at a time.
• Focus on regular assessments and feedback.
• Combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, and individual/group projects.

Assessment:

• Coursework assessments (practical reports, computer-based assessments, presentations, etc.)
