About Program

Program Overview

During this 6-week evening course you will be guided through the different stages of the screen-printing process. You will learn how to formulate your own design as well as learn how to produce your own series of A6 prints.

Program Outline

This introductory course will begin with an exploration into the history of screen printing and you will have the opportunity to inspect a variety of physical examples created using this method.

Your introduction will involve a demonstration of the print making process and you will be taught the basic principles involved.

You will then learn how images are transferred onto a screen and how these can later be converted into a two-way colour screen print.

As part of the course, you will experiment with different ideas and concepts through sketching with the aim to formulate your own design.

You will learn about techniques used in stencil making, either through the act of cutting paper or through an exposing process instead.

You will be taught how to convert your design into two print separations - a process required to isolate each colour used.

You will learn how to expose your separations onto a screen together, learning how these separations can be layered to achieve different results.

You will be guided through each of the different stages involved in the screen-printing process including how to ‘coat’ and ‘flood’ your screen correctly.

Finally, you will produce your own series of A6 printed postcards using you’re your own design.

    Staff Delivering on this Course

Adrian Reid is an illustrator, graphic designer and printmaker based in Aberdeen, Scotland.

He is an alumnus of Gray’s School of Art and is the creator behind Orange_ade Design and Illustration. Reid specialises in creating colourful, vibrant artwork which depicts both a quirky and cheeky appearance.

Each of his artworks start in the form of a sketch. Later the designer transfers his drawings into Adobe Illustrator software before finally transferring his designs onto a silk screen for printing. This crossover between digital and analogue processes is one of the main driving forces behind his work.
