Program Overview


The course supports students in developing their academic identity and skills in preparation for postgraduate study. Students will be exposed to and explore the scope and features of the creative and cultural industries, thereby developing academic skills, particularly in the areas of enquiry, research and communication.

Program Outline

The study materials allow students to develop a range of academic, creative business and professional skills which will allow graduates to join a postgraduate degree at RGU. The selected modules provide a strong theoretical foundation as well as practical digital skills generally and in areas specific to creative and cultural industries.

Learning Methods

This is an online course taught through

CampusMoodle

, the university’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) which offers you flexibility of where and when you can study.

CampusMoodle

provides you with full open access to tutors and other class members. You will have the benefit of being part of a group of learners with the invaluable opportunity to participate in active, group-related learning within a supportive online community setting.

The interactive virtual learning environment provides you with lecture and course materials including:

  • Virtual tutorials
  • Live chats
  • Discussion forums - student and tutor led
  • Up-to-date web technology for delivery methods
  • User friendly material
  • A typical week for a student will entail reading/watching/listening to lecture materials and various further required and optional published materials; participating in asynchronous (and sometimes synchronous) group learning activities such as debates and live chats; solo learning activities such as formative assessment quizzes; joining 'check-in' sessions with their personal tutor; and personally directed library research. Live sessions will be recorded where possible for watching on-demand, will usually run for up to one hour, with an indicative class size of 20.

    As an online course, independent study includes both course-directed activities to be completed asynchronously and self-directed study.


    Staff Delivering on This Course

    The course is taught by staff from existing subject areas including international tourism and hospitality, information management, digital marketing, strategic marketing, public relations, media and business analytics. External speakers will also be engaged as appropriate. Most staff are Fellows and Senior Fellows of Advance HE and several have been recipients of STAR Awards.

    Typically students are assessed each year:

  • 1 written assignment, including essay
  • 2 portfolios

    We aim to provide you with feedback within 20 working days of hand-in for all written exams, coursework and practical exams.
