Program Overview

  • Course overview

We bring International Tourism Management to life with inspiring and real experiences. We are passionate about sustainable and responsible tourism management and you will learn, in creative ways, how tourism destinations are managed to be successful, sustainable and competitive.

Why study this course with us?

This degree course is accredited by the Tourism Management Institute.

Your transformation from new student to future tourism leader will begin from day one. Chester is one of the UK’s leading historic tourism destinations so it is the ideal place to explore tourism marketing, development and management ideas that can be applied across the globe, especially given the challenges of the past few years.

You’ll enjoy the chance to shape your career with a work placement in your second year – and if you’d like to broaden your horizons even further, how does a year at Walt Disney World in the sunshine state sound? Just one of our many opportunities for a year’s study abroad, or an industry placement that will enhance your tourism degree and your employment prospects. We have seen our students graduating to positions across the tourism industry. Recent graduate Niamh Roberts says: “Studying at the University of Chester provided me with the best platform to network with industry professionals, get involved in extracurricular activities and enhance my employability skills. I highly recommend the course – it certainly has shaped me into the person I am today.”

Benefit from our close links with tourism bodies like the Tourism Management Institute, who we are accredited by, our links with industry experts and exciting placement opportunities.

    Program Outline

  • Teaching methods

Our Queen’s Park Campus is within walking distance of the historic tourist city of Chester. You will be taught via a range of different methods including lectures, seminars, tutorials, guest speakers from industry, and field visits to tourist attractions and tourism destinations.

    Assessment

We use a well-balanced range of assessment methods, including business reports, essays, presentations, debates and practical work. The majority of assessed work is through coursework.

    Work based learning

As part of your studies you have the option to undertake a 5 week placement and can do this through our fully supported

    Work Based Learning

    route, or apply via our

    Experiential Overseas Learning

programme to work with one of our long-established partnership organisations worldwide. Most students have the opportunity to undertake either one of these options as an integral part of their undergraduate course.

There may be opportunities to work on tourism management projects overseas. In the past, the

    Experiential Learning

route has enabled Tourism students to visit South Africa, Costa Rica, France and others.
