  • Learn from published writers, prize-winning poets, and novelists through one-on-one supervision, workshops, and guest lectures.
  • Contribute to events, publications, workshops, short courses, and competitions, gaining experience in various aspects of the writing field.

Program Description:

  • The MA Creative Writing can be completed in one year full-time or two years part-time.
  • You will complete 180 credits, including two optional modules (60 credits) corresponding to your desired portfolio medium, and two compulsory core modules (120 credits) including the substantial Portfolio module where you receive individual supervision from a genre expert.
  • The course can be taken on a modular basis, with individual modules available as CPD short courses.

Outline:

  • The program teaches you to refine your writing to a publishable level, including individual feedback on your portfolio, seminars, workshops, writing competitions, and open mic nights.
  • You will learn to analyze and provide constructive criticism to your peers, fostering a community of writers learning together.

Assessment:

  • Creative writing assignments assess knowledge, understanding of form and subject matter, grammar, originality, control of literary form, voice, style, idiom, and register.

Entry Requirements:


UK Students:

  • 2:2 degree in any subject or demonstrated professional or relevant qualifications or experience.
  • Additional criteria:
  • Portfolio of 10-15 poems and/or 5,000-6,000 words of prose.

International Students:

  • Minimum requirement:
  • 60% in a 4-year degree or 3-year degree with a 2-year Master's in any subject from a public university or CGPA 2.8 in a 4-year degree or 3-year degree with a 2-year Master's in any subject from a private university.
  • Additional criteria:
  • Portfolio of 10-15 poems and/or 5,000-6,000 words of prose.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

The course requires an English language qualification or test. For most students, this requirement can be met with a 4 or C in GCSE English. For those students who require an English language test, this course requires a test from Group B as outlined on the Keele English Language guidance pages.
