Introduction
Introduction:
This course will equip you with relevant and current knowledge, skills and understanding to achieve the level of competence essential for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) for professional practice as a diagnostic radiographer.
Who is this course aimed at:
Current graduates with an appropriate first degree who are interested in pursuing a career in diagnostic radiography, utilising their existing knowledge and experience in a challenging and diverse healthcare environment.
What will you learn:
During this course, you will undertake a range of modules which will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to graduate as a radiographer. This course will include theoretical and practice elements where you will spend time working within an imaging department, observing and learning from experienced practitioners. Placement learning in an integral part of the course and allows you to develop your knowledge and understanding of radiography whilst linking theoretical and practice components.
You will be placed at one hospital for the two years of the course for your practice placements. You will be supported in practice by a Practice Educator.

This is your first practice placement module which runs for the whole of the first year and encompasses assessment of competency in practice.
Introduction to Diagnostic Imaging (40 Credits)This module provides an introduction to diagnostic radiography including anatomy, physiology, pathology and imaging of the skeletal system, respiratory system, and regions of abdomen. You will also learn about working in the NHS, complete your mandatory training and e-learning for health training. Essential introductory physics will be covered including the IR(ME)R (2017) regulations.
Applications of Diagnostic Imaging (40 Credits)This module will cover the rest of the physics content, cross-sectional imaging – with an emphasis on CT, and to include MRI and US. Anatomy, physiology, pathology and imaging of the remaining body systems will be covered in this module.
Practice Placement 2 (Pass/Refer)This is your second practice placement module which runs for the whole of the second year and encompasses assessment of competency in practice.
Integrated care and Multidisciplinary working (20 Credits)This module will cover trauma imaging, imaging in the operating theatre, mobile imaging, service user needs, and working in a multidisciplinary team.
Project (40 Credits)This module will start with a recap on research methods alongside a formative research proposal.
The project will take the form of a service evaluation or audit which will be practice led.
Leadership (20 Credits)This module includes leadership skills, management skills, supporting and teaching others.
Advancing Radiography Practice (20 Credits)This module includes current issues – enhanced, advanced and consultant practice. Initial radiographer commenting and reporting is also a part of this module.
Career opportunities
Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council to work as a Diagnostic Radiographer in the UK within the NHS or private practice.
Graduates may also travel with this qualification and work overseas.
