Course Details

This stand-alone professional development course is designed to provide an advanced understanding of clinical management for aspiring advanced clinical practitioners (ACPs) working in primary care. Our expert team will support you to develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of acute and chronic conditions, exploring presentations and clinical management across all age groups.

We’ll provide an overview of common conditions and clinical activities for ACPs in primary care that will reflect the Core Capabilities Framework for ACPs in Primary Care (HEE, 2020). We’ll focus on building your understanding of referral pathways and processes, national policies and guidelines, clinical targets, quality frameworks, and the role of ACPs in primary care.

Our experienced and knowledgeable team will concentrate on emergency presentations of minor injuries and the clinical management of chronic conditions, such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension and cancer. We’ll also help you build your ability to recognise and manage red flag symptoms in relation to cancer diagnosis, disease progression, acute oncology and oncological emergencies.

To support your development as a practitioner in primary care, we’ll guide you as you expand your knowledge and understanding of diagnostic investigations, history taking and clinical assessments for a range of acute and chronic conditions. We’ll also support you to develop your communication and consultation skills, including alternative consultation styles and the use of relevant digital technology.

In addition, you can expect to enhance your knowledge and understanding of other conditions and areas of practice, including dermatology, cardio, renal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, sexual health, and mental health. Alongside this, we’ll explore clinical and safeguarding issues for vulnerable groups, including paediatrics, older people, people with dementia and those with learning disabilities.

To benefit from studying this course, you should already a health professional with a basic understanding and some clinical experience of working within primary care.
