Program Overview


Engineering Management is aimed at an ambitious technical professional who aspires to a senior role involving technical, management and strategic decision-making responsibilities. MSc Engineering Management is designed specifically to allow you to update, extend and deepen your knowledge in engineering and management, to enhance your career opportunities in industry.

The MSc course is designed to meet the increasing demand for general engineering professionals with advanced technical skills in engineering management. The course addresses the challenges faced by engineering graduates who move into general management or senior specialist roles.

Program Outline

The course focuses on the strategies that are used to produce, process and/ or service engineering-based or innovative projects and practices. It will aid your understanding in various steps, from idea/ concept development through relevant analyses to launch, relate innovation to improvements in products, processes and competitive advantage and explain how intellectual property is protected and commercially exploited. The course is designed to be a broad and challenging taught postgraduate course, which would be ideal if you seek a postgraduate qualification to enhance your knowledge, skills, and employability. The programme would furnish you with the skill sets that are required by industries.

We consistently review and develop our courses and modules to ensure they are up-to-date with sector and industry graduate skills demands. Course structure, modules and options are subject to change.


We have new, modern library facilities on both campuses offering inspirational environments for study and research. Libraries contain resources in print and digital formats, a range of study spaces and dedicated librarian who can assist with your learning. Students are supported with any academic or subject related queries by a personal tutor, module leaders, former and current UEL students.

If you need a bit of extra help with certain skills such as academic writing, maths or IT, our Skill zone, and English for Academic Purposes we offer workshops, drop-in sessions and one-to-one appointments to help our students achieve their potential.

You can receive advice and guidance on all aspects of the IT systems provided by the university from our IT Service Desks located on all three campuses.

Our Student Support hubs in Docklands and Stratford feature centralised helpdesks to cater for your every need. UEL provides also support and advice for disabled students and those with specific learning difficulties (SPDs).

Your overall workload consists of class and online tutor led sessions, individual learning, practical activities. A personalised timetable will be available at the beginning of each term and subject to your modules and any health requirements.

The size of classes can vary depending on the nature of the course, module, and activity. This can range from large groups in a lecture theatre setting, to smaller groups taking part in seminars and collaborative work. You will receive your personalised timetable at the beginning of the academic year dependent on your course.


We assess you through a mixture of coursework, design drawings, oral examinations, your research dissertation and an end of term exam.
