Our MBA is a dynamic, contemporary and practical course designed to produce business leaders for a sustainable future. You'll develop an integrated and critically aware understanding of management and organisations in a global context, assisting you take on effective roles within them.
The MBA - Sustainable Energy pathway will help you to develop specialist and leadership skills, enabling you to generate original, innovative, and impactful solutions to identified social, political, economic and cultural needs and opportunities in the area of sustainable energy.
Our course is flexible and accessible. Full-time students attend during the day while part-time students attend during the evenings so you can tailor your attendance around your availability.
Everything on our MBA is geared towards your career development. We're excellently located in London's most exciting region for enterprise, between the major financial institutions of Canary Wharf and pioneering new businesses in Stratford and Shoreditch. We work with different institutions, from Bloomberg to Barclaycard, to bring you cutting-edge insight into the way contemporary businesses are run.
Program Outline
Your full-time MBA study programme will feature six core modules designed to provide you with a solid foundation in management, business and leadership. In addition, you may be required to study a compulsory non-credit language module (for those with additional needs) and placement workshop (for those on the placement route).
Your final capstone unit is your opportunity to consolidate everything you have learned and apply it to a real business. Academically, it tests your ability to apply your learning to real management issues. Professionally, it may well open the door to your next career move.
The outcome of the unit, which is a dissertation report, is linked to your applied project. Your dissertation will be based on your consultancy/applied project and is the culmination of everything you have learned during your studies. It will demonstrate that you can assimilate your learning, take multiple perspectives on a business issue and explore your subject thoroughly.
Required modules
The sustainable energy specialism will enable you to make calculated decisions between seizing opportunities and managing risk in the energy sector. Whether you want to set up your own business or develop your intra-preneurial mindset within a large corporate or an owner-managed business, the pathway will equip you with the innovative skills to find creative solutions to day-to-day problems.
We consistently review and develop our courses and modules to ensure they are up-to-date with sector and industry graduate skills demands. Course structure, modules and options are subject to change.
You'll be taught by a range of staff, many of whom run their own practices or work in practice, which ensures that the practice-led research which is disseminated in the classroom, or actually takes place there, is relevant to industry and practice. Within each module is a theoretical component and a contextual/simulation component with the intention that knowledge and skills are always introduced and developed in relation to practical projects.
Knowledge is developed through guided reading, knowledge-based activities with feedback and online discussions and activities. Thinking skills are developed through reflective activities with feedback and online discussions and activities. Practical skills are developed through applied or simulated activities with feedback and research skills-based activities with feedback. Skills for life and work (general skills) are developed through planning activities with feedback and project work.
Guided independent study
When not attending timetabled lectures, you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. This will typically involve reading journal articles and books, working on individual and group projects, undertaking preparing coursework assignments and presentations, and preparing for exams. Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities including online resources, the library and Moodle.
Programme structure
You can move from full-time to part-time study and vice-versa to accommodate any external factors such as financial constraints or domestic commitments. Many of our students make use of this flexibility and this may impact on the overall duration of their study period.Students on the MBA (Entrepreneurship) with Placement route will be expected to undertake a 30 week work placement. The placement is worth an additional 120 credits. UEL will assist you in finding a placement and will advertise opportunities on the UEL Employment Hub. However, it is ultimately the student's responsibility to source a valid placement. Further details on placement is contained in the placement handbook.

Dedicated personal tutor
When you arrive, we'll introduce you to your personal tutor. This is the member of staff who will provide academic guidance, be a support throughout your time at UEL and who will show you how to make the best use of all the help and resources that we offer.
Workload
Each year you will spend around 300 hours of timetabled learning and teaching activities. These may be lectures, workshops, seminars and individual and group tutorials. Contact hours may vary depending on each module.The approximate percentages for this course are:
Year 1:
scheduled teaching - 300 hours; guided independent study - 1500 hours.
Your timetable
Your individualised timetable is normally available to students within 48 hours of enrolment. Whilst we make every effort to ensure timetables are as student-friendly as possible, scheduled teaching can take place on any day of the week between 9am and 6pm. For undergraduate students Wednesday afternoons are normally reserved for sports and cultural activities, but there may be occasions when this is not possible. Timetables for part-time students will depend on the modules selected.
Class sizes
To give you an indication of class sizes, this course normally attracts 500-1000 students a year. Lecture sizes are normally 100 plus students. In the seminar classroom you will be taught in groups of 40-50 students. However, this can vary by academic year.Knowledge is assessed by
