  • Develop practical and theoretical skills in theatre making.
  • Work with peers to create short devised performances, responding to plays from classical, Renaissance and contemporary theatre.
  • Module 2: Drama Industry Case Study
  • Explore roles in the Creative Industries.
  • Discover what professionals do and maximize future employment opportunities.
  • Module 3: Introductory Performance Techniques
  • Develop practical and theoretical skills in theatre making.
  • Work with peers to create short devised performances, responding to plays from classical, Renaissance and contemporary theatre.
  • Module 4: Production Project
  • Be introduced to the processes and expectations of production practice.
  • Shape your first production to meet the experience you have gained before coming to University.
  • Module 5: Movement and Voice
  • Develop skills in areas of performance practice and develop basic competencies to enable you to engage in production practice later in the programme.
  • Module 6: Approaches to Theatre Discourse
  • Develop intellectual and conceptual skills to become well rounded creative practitioners.
  • Explore the creative and cultural context of performance by engaging in critical, contextual and historical material.
  • Module 7: Live and Recorded Media
  • Work with specialist students from other programmes to deliver fully realised media work (screen and recorded).
  • Develop skills that will add to your developing CPD profile and contribute material to your professional showreel.
  • Module 8: Theatre Practice: Research and Development
  • Bring together specialist skills developed in techniques modules with culture making skills.
  • Propose and plan a production project that you will complete next semester.
  • Module 9: Intermediate Technique
  • Develop your skills and understanding in one of the following production areas: scenography; stage management; play and scriptwriting.

  • Work with other students to create a fully resourced production project, in line with the proposal that you developed in the Research and Development module.
  • Module 11: Exploratory Practices 1
  • Focus on the skills for developing a production, including textual and thematic context, practical methodology, creative concept, planning and time management.
  • Module 12: Performance Perspectives: Contexts and Criticism
  • Develop intellectual and conceptual skills to become well rounded creative practitioners.
  • Examine frameworks for understanding performance from a range of perspectives.

  • Consider how theatre communicates with audiences by constructing meaning.

  • Through experimental practice, you’ll come to understand a range of range of styles and techniques connected to developing individual and collaborative theatre skills.

  • Our students go on to work for some of the world's most prestigious theatres and companies, such as the Royal Court Theatre, the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal Opera House, and the Bouffes du Nord in Paris.
