Program Overview
This PhD program aims to develop software tools that empower educators to create engaging escape room-like activities for both classroom and online settings. The focus is on both the technical requirements of the tools and their usability, considering the pedagogical needs of teaching and fostering skills, interest, and teamwork. The research investigates the capabilities of software tools in supporting educators and motivating students, particularly in the context of computer science education.
Program Outline
Other:
The aim of this PhD is to explore the requirements and development of software tools to enable educators to easily build escape room type activities – potentially as classroom activities, or as online experiences. The focus of the project is on the requirements (Software Engineering) and usability (Human Computer Interaction) of the proposed tools, and how these can support the pedagogy of teaching and developing skills, interest and teamwork. The research aim is to determine how far can software tools support teaching staff in developing activities that motivate and engage the players/students. The context will be on teaching computer science, though the general approach should be more widely applicable.
