  • Central Banking (1): History, Strategies and Operations: This module teaches students the theoretical and analytical tools needed to understand central bank roles and policy strategies.
  • Central Banking (2): Monetary Policy and Financial Stability: This module identifies how monetary policy is designed and implemented in modern economies.
  • Banking Risk Management: This module focuses on bank risk assessment and changes in bank regulation since the Global Financial Crisis.

Assessment:

Assessment is based entirely on coursework submitted to the Virtual Learning Platform. Students choose a topic from a list provided at the start of the term and submit a proposal (worth 20%) and an essay (worth 80%).


Teaching:

The program is taught by leading monetary and banking academics and market practitioners. The teaching team includes Professors Geoffrey Wood and Tim Congdon and Brandon Davies. Students can also benefit from guest lectures/webinars by international experts in the field. Teaching is fully online, with video or audio lectures for each module. Weekly online tutorials are held via Microsoft Teams to discuss topics, case studies, and real-life examples.


Careers:

Graduates will leave with expert knowledge of monetary economics, monetary policy, risk assessment, and how financial institutions operate. This equips them for careers in central banking, monetary analysis, consultancy businesses, investment banking, research departments, and specialized media.


Other:

  • Students have the option to study for an accreditation in financial risk management with the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association (PRMIA).
  • The program collaborates with the Institute of International Monetary Research (IIMR), which offers research seminars and other events where students can learn from top academics, regulators, and practitioners in monetary economics.
  • Students can progress to the MSc in Money, Banking and Central Banking by taking three additional modules and completing a dissertation.
