Admission Requirements

Academic Qualifications:

  • Applicants are normally expected to have a first or upper second-class degree in History or a related subject.
  • Applicants with a lower second-class degree or significant relevant experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Applications from mature students (those over the usual age range for undergraduate study) are welcomed, with age not being a barrier to learning.
  • The University welcomes international applications.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants are expected to submit a research proposal of no more than 3,000 words outlining their proposed area of study.
  • Applicants should also provide a sample of their written work, such as a dissertation chapter or published article.
  • All applicants will be interviewed by members of the academic staff.

Language Proficiency:

  • For applicants whose first language is not English, an IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent is required.

Language Proficiency Requirements:
