Program Overview

The Master of Research in Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies at the University of Glasgow is a one-year program that trains students in language-based area studies. The program includes core courses in language, research methods, and research design, as well as optional courses on a variety of topics related to the region. Students also complete a dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words. Graduates of the program have gone on to work in a variety of careers, including academia, government, and business.

• The four core courses are:
• RESEARCH DESIGN
• The optional course includes:
• CONTESTED STATES: THE CAUCASUS SINCE 1991
• DE FACTO STATES IN THE POST-SOVIET SPACE
• MEDIA AND DEMOCRATISATION IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE AND THE FORMER SOVIET UNION
• CRIME AND CORRUPTION IN THE FORMER SOVIET UNION
• RETHINKING CENTRAL ASIAN SECURITY
• The dissertation is 12,000-15,000 words in length.
• Some languages and courses are not offered every year, and students may also be able to choose courses from other subjects in the School of Social & Political Sciences.
• Language training is offered at various levels, from beginner to advanced.
• Students with a degree in one of the region's languages can take an additional course instead.
