Program Overview
Overview
This is a potential research degree area, subject to the approval of the University. If you are interested in undertaking a research degree in this area, please make contact with the
Dean
to discuss your proposal.Abertay’s research culture encourages areas of cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary working that are consubstantial to the latest evolutions of the marketing discipline.
We are particularly attentive to the latest evolutions in knowledge and practice that relate to strategic and digital marketing, and consumer behaviour. For example, the phenomenon of social media influencers presents ample opportunities for research, considering that billions of consumers regularly use social media platforms. Potential topics could include determinants of social media influencer success and ways in which social media influencers affect consumer behaviour.
We are a member of the CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) network and work very closely with industry. We preserve this proximity by encouraging dialogue with industry and opportunities for our students to work on marketing problems faced by real companies.
A research degree at Abertay is excellent preparation for a career as a researcher and an academic, as well as a diverse range of professions outside of academia.
Program Outline
What does a research degree involve?
As a postgraduate research student, you will carry out an original, independent research and/or practice-based project, whilst being guided and supported by a team of expert academic supervisors. As you do this, you will benefit from an extensive programme of researcher development tailored to your background, needs and future ambitions. This will in turn help you develop the skills required to deliver research excellence.
Your progress will be monitored throughout the year and via an annual review. The final assessment is by examination of your submitted thesis and a viva voce (oral examination).
With the help of your supervisors, you will be encouraged to publish your research during and after your studies.
