The International Master in Arts and Culture Management aims to equip students with the skills to lead cultural institutions and creative industries. The program focuses on practical, innovative, ethical, and responsible leadership across various cultural sectors, including music, art, film, theater, and publishing. The curriculum introduces and develops understanding of concepts, principles, tools, and techniques of cultural management, addressing current issues in the arts and culture field. Students gain exposure to companies and art-field experts through company visits and lectures from professionals at organizations such as UNESCO, the Rome Opera House, the National Gallery of Modern Art, and the MAXXI Museum. Learning outcomes include identifying tools for successful cultural management strategies, developing skills in managing cultural organizations effectively, applying management skills to business plans for cultural companies, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data from cultural industries for market research, and evaluating the alignment of business plans with organizational strategy and the international competitive environment. The program is structured around four pillars: real link with companies, internationality, professional impact, and higher purpose (Better Managers for a Better World, focusing on CSR and sustainable business approaches). The program boasts a 98% placement rate, with over 70% of students finding new jobs within six months of completion and over 50% before completion. Outline:
The 12-month International Master in Arts and Culture Management is divided into modules. The program's structure is presented as a percentage breakdown: 5% Managerial Core, 35% Focusing and Specializing, 10% Innovative and Responsible Leadership, 10% Electives, 15% Business in Action, 5% Global Trends Lab, and 20% Capstone Project.
Module 1: Developing Core Managerial Skills:
This module focuses on strengthening communication, management, and art market skills. Specific courses include Managerial Economics (entrepreneurship and business planning), Management Accounting for Decision Making (financial aspects of business decisions), Business Strategy (long-term direction and strategy of a company), Financial Statement Analysis (understanding financial statements for decision-making), Project & Operations Management (project management and problem-solving), Marketing: Traditional and Digital (applying marketing principles), Human Resource Management (workforce acquisition, development, motivation, and retention), and Data Analytics for Managers (analyzing and interpreting data for business decisions). It includes: The Art of Managing International Arts & Culture (global arts management and socio-economic impact); Management of Cultural Heritage and Creative Industries (cultural heritage management, music industry and artist management, film industry, publishing industry management, preservation of cultural heritage, urban redevelopment, and web series management); Management of Cultural Events and Institutions (cultural event management, museum management, theatre management, and performing arts consultancy); and Entrepreneurship in the Arts (art galleries management, visual arts consultancy, and creative entrepreneurship).
Electives:
Electives are offered across seven main areas: Macro Area I: Next Gen Business (Innovation & Growth, AI4 Business, Tech & Digitalization); and Macro Area II: Global Business Excellence (Industry Business Excellence, International Business, Global Electives with RBS international partner Business Schools, and Introduction to preparation for professional certifications).
Business in Action - Hands-on Lab:
This includes a Practice Lab in partnership with Christie's, where theoretical concepts are put into practice. The Global Trends Lab consists of two virtual sessions: Session 1 (identifying global trends with guest speakers from UN, UNIDO, ILO) and Session 2 (understanding the impact of global trends on businesses).
Capstone Project:
Students tackle a real business challenge, such as designing a marketing plan, developing a strategy to increase online sales, or creating a loyalty offering. Examples of past projects include imagining a new development strategy for TEDx to overcome the coronavirus emergency.
Teaching:
The program employs a highly qualified faculty of arts and cultural professionals, academic experts, and advisors. The teaching approach focuses on acquiring current market-required skills and know-how. The learning environment is stimulating and interactive, including hands-on workshops, museum and cultural institution tours, and group projects reflecting real-world challenges.
