Are you studying in the UK? This is your lucky day because we’re happy to tell you that as a foreign graduate with a degree from the UK, you can apply for a post-graduation work visa in the UK that lasts up to 2 years! With that, you can live and work in the UK for 2 years and start your career in one of the most developed countries in the world.

In 2018, 460,000 international students graduated from UK universities, and that number even excludes anyone within the EU.  Since then, the number of international graduates has been growing immensely, and the UK plans on expanding even further to eliminate its competitive disadvantage in recruiting international students.

When the UK passed the policy to offer international students a two-year work visa in 2018, the chief executive of Universities in the UK at the time, Alistair Jarvis, said, “The introduction of a two-year post-study work visa is something Universities UK has long campaigned for, and we strongly welcome this policy change, which will put us back where we belong as a first-choice study destination. Not only will a wide range of employers now benefit from access to talented graduates from around the world, but these students also hold lifelong links with the UK.”

Foreign Students Actually Help the UK’s Economy

This is not a surprise as international students always have a positive effect on countries and universities in a cultural and economical way, so lengthening the duration they can stay would only benefit the country and the students themselves.

Before passing this policy, foreign graduates could only stay in the country for 4 months to look for a job, but this change can increase their chances of finding a full-time job. The UK government said that part of this motion was to recruit talented graduates in disciplines such as maths, engineering and technology.

“Our universities thrive on being open global institutions. Introducing the graduate route ensures our prestigious higher education sector will continue to attract the best talent from around the world to global Britain.” Gavin Williamson, the former Secretary of State for Education of the United Kingdom said.

Naturally, upon hearing this news, one would be encouraged to explore the available opportunities to study in the UK. Because now it’s not just about getting an internationally accredited degree that gives you an advantage in a global market, but it also means you get to work and live abroad!
